Getting started

How do I reduce a model?

Drop a file on the window or press ⌘O. Drag the Keep slider, click a preset, or type a triangle count. The reduced model appears next to the original. Press ⌘S to save, or use the arrow next to the Save button to pick another format.

Which formats are supported?

PolyReducer opens FBX, glTF, GLB, OBJ, USD, USDA, USDC, USDZ, STL and PLY. It saves GLB, USDZ, USDC, USDA and OBJ. A glTF file keeps its materials, textures, skins, animations and morph targets when saved as GLB.

Can it open .blend files?

No. Export from Blender as glTF (File → Export → glTF 2.0) or FBX and open that file.

Reduction

The result has more triangles than I asked for

Seams and hard edges and Borders and open edges keep some edges fixed, which limits how far a model can be reduced. Turn one or both off to go further.

Textures are missing

Mac apps from the App Store may only read the file you opened. If textures or a .bin file sit next to the model, PolyReducer asks for access to that folder. Click Allow Folder Access in the panel and choose the folder.

My glTF file won't open

Files compressed with Draco or meshopt need to be decompressed first, for example with npx @gltf-transform/cli copy in.glb out.glb.

What does Deviation mean?

How far the reduced surface moved from the original at most, as a share of the model's size. Under 0.5% is usually invisible.

Viewport

Orbit with the middle mouse button, left drag or a two-finger swipe. Hold Shift to pan. Zoom with the scroll wheel, a pinch, or Ctrl and drag. Keys 1, 3 and 7 give front, right and top views (with Ctrl for the opposite side), 4 6 8 2 orbit in steps, 5 toggles orthographic and Home frames everything. Click the viewport first so it receives the keys.

Purchase

How does pricing work?

Your first 5 exports are free. After that, buy 50 exports at a time for $14.99, whenever you need them. There is no subscription and unused exports never expire. Only saving a file uses an export; opening, previewing and reducing are always free.

Can I use my exports on another Mac?

Not yet. Your balance is stored on the Mac where you bought it, and it survives deleting and reinstalling the app.
